Head of Accounting
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Head of Accounting to own all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations and financial controls. This role is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll processes, month-end close, and financial reporting, while also designing, documenting, and implementing scalable accounting systems, policies, and internal controls.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, enjoys rolling up their sleeves, and wants full ownership and accountability for the accounting function—not just oversight.

About Us:
We’re a fast-growing healthcare SaaS company building compliance and quality management tools for the home health and hospice industry. As our first in-house Head of Accounting, you will play a critical role in owning and building the company’s accounting function from the ground up.This is a highly hands-on leadership role for someone who is comfortable doing the work today, establishing strong accounting processes and controls, and scaling financial operations as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-On Accounting Operations
- Own, execute, and continuously improve the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), billing, collections, and cash application.
- Own customer invoicing and collections processes, track incoming payments, follow up on overdue balances, and maintain accurate AR aging.
- Own vendor billing and payment processes, manage vendor relationships, and ensure timely and accurate AP processing.
- Maintain and oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and proper classification in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and oversee employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card transactions, ensuring appropriate controls and policy compliance.
- Own payroll processes and controls, coordinating execution with the company’s CTO/President.
Close, Reporting & Controls- Own and continuously improve the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Monitor cash flow, prepare cash forecasts, and partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights and decision support.
- Develop, document, and own accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support scalability, audit readiness, and long-term growth.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and own revenue recognition practices appropriate for a SaaS business.
Cross-Functional & External Support- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis.
- Act as the company’s accounting lead and primary point of contact for external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals.
- Lead audits, reviews, and accounting-related due diligence requests as the company grows.
- Design the future accounting team structure and participate in hiring and onboarding as the company scales.
Experience:
- CPA strongly recommended.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including ownership of an accounting function or senior Controller-level responsibilities.
- Experience in SaaS, technology, or high-growth startup environments strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to be hands-on across AP, AR, GL, and payroll while owning accounting controls, policies, and processes.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP; experience owning SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606) is a plus.
- Demonstrated success building, documenting, and scaling accounting processes and internal controls.
- Proficiency with accounting systems such as QuickBooks and HubSpot, and comfort working with spreadsheets and modern financial tools.
- Self-starter who is comfortable working independently, owning outcomes, wearing multiple hats, and partnering closely with leadership in a growing company.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
